FAQ's

You've got questions? We’ve got answers.

Commercial
Locksmithing

  • Why should I rekey my locks?

Did you just buy a new office and wonder who may have keys? Have you had employees leave over the years who had keys? Let us help you breath easier and make your office more secure by rekeying the locks. We change out the pins (guts) of the lock to work a new key, making old keys obsolete.

  • What is a master key?

Master key is a second key that can work multiple locks, even if those locks use a different key. There can be different "levels" of master keys for a group of locks. The benefit to master key systems is that they let a manager or owners open multiple doors with just one key, eliminating the need to carry around multiple keys.

  • What are High Security Key systems?

High security keys are keys that make duplicating the keys more difficult. They also can make the lock harder to open without a key, giving you more security. Most systems limit who can get duplicates cut. We probably offer the Schlage Primus XP key system as well as other restricted key systems. Call for a demonstration and quote.

  • What kind of Access Control Systems are available?

We can install two types of systems. One is hard wired with the locks controlled by a central power supply. The other is a battery operated lock. This includes a must have audit trail capability so you know when employees enter the office. There are many brands and functions available so it is best to let us talk to you about what your expectations are and we can tailor a quote to meet those needs. Wireless versions of Access Control locks are getting more sophisticated and less expensive all the time and may be the best option in many cases, especially where running wire is hard or impossible.

  • The doors to my business just don’t close right and may be damaged. Can you help with this?

Yes, we can repair most doors, whether glass aluminum store front doors or standard hollow metal doors. We can even replace the door if needed. We also install panic bars, new hinges, door closers, door pivots and continuous hinges.

Residential
Locksmithing

  • Why should I rekey my locks?

Did you just buy a new house and wonder who may have keys? Have you handed out your keys to neighbors or baby sitters over the years? Let us help you breathe easier and make you home more secure by rekeying the locks. We change out the pins (guts) of the lock to work a new key, making old keys obsolete.

  • I just bought a new house, should I have my locks rekeyed?

Most builders on large subdivisions have all the front door locks on a master key system. Most of the sub contractors are given copies of the master. For security reasons it is a good idea to have the locks rekeyed.

  • I want to make my house as secure as possible. How can you help?

We can come out and look over your house and locks, and give you suggestions. This service is free.

  • Why should I buy locks from a locksmith and not a hardware store?

We can get locks in many more styles and finishes than hardware stores. We also do not charge an extra fee to rekey locks if you buy them from us.

  • I want to give my family members a keyless way to enter the house. What options are out there?

There are new electronic locks coming out all of the time for residential applications. There are now electronic locks for your home that you can program and unlock with your smart phone. Call or come by our shop and we can show you different options for your house.

Automotive
Locksmithing

  • My auto key has a transponder or chip in the key. Can you make a duplicate?

We can duplicate and program most transponder keys: We need to be at the car to program the key to your car.

  • My ignition is hard to turn?

We may be able to repair the ignition. If a replacement is necessary we can often replace it and key it to your current key.

  • I have lost the keys to my car, what do I do now?

We can sometimes use the VIN# to get a key code and cut a key that way. If not, we can make a key from the locks on the vehicle. If the key is a transponder key, we can program the key to the car at the same time.

  • I would like to get an extra remote for my car.

We have many remotes in stock and can order what we do not have. We can also get remote head keys where the remote is built into the head of the key.

  • My remote head key is broken. Do I have to buy a whole new key?

We can repair most of the remote head keys on the market, especially Honda, Lexus and Dodge versions. Cost to repair is often half the cost or more of a new key.
